Good news/bad news. We have done the three day for the last two years. We like it and have a three day planned for 2017 but a four planned for 2018. So the good news is....first timers can get a great feel with the 3 day and plan for more if you like it another year. Bad news.....June 2017 looked completely booked (we are trying to add our 4th day). This place books up 2-4 years in advance.
What are the rooms like? What is in the rooms? Others have mentioned some people might have to stay in town at the Westin. How do you know where you are staying?

It's Alaska, not the Holiday Inn, but we stayed in a great elevated cabin which had a living room w/tv, (not much time to look at it!) and 2 bedrooms, one had a king size bed for me and my hubby, the other had 2 singles for the 2 other guys with whom we fished. They serve appetizers in your cabin before dinner-awesome touch! You can get a "booze stop" and pick up a bottle of wine or some beer or spirits after fishing before going back to the cabin. Nice pain killer for those aching arms as you look at the fabulous scenery and view your photos of the day!
When you say a small group may have to share a room, what do you mean? I'm going with my husband. We are in a room to ourselves. Right?

I can't answer your specific question, because my group of four this June was too late in our booking to stay at the Kingfisher property. Instead, Kingfisher Resort arranged for up to stay at the Westmark Hotel, a short block from the marina where all the fishing boats dock. The Westmark wasn't great food-wise (see my review), but the rooms were fine and Sitka really has its charms. Also, the noisy dining room at Kingfisher after fishing may not be everybody's cup of tea. All that said, you will have a fantastic experience with Kingfisher. We four (from Colorado and Washington) had the greatest time, with fabulous fishing, attentive care and high organization from start to finish.
You are not expected to tip in New Zealand, so no worries. They charge a fair price and don't expect to get tipped, so please don't break that wonderful policy!!!
