Even though there wasn't a tour available in English we were allowed to tag along with a tour in German and were given a flier that had descriptions of the rooms in English so we could follow along. … Full review by mdw50

Amazing castle on a cliff, on the German hills. You can walk in the small Garden to see this castle. Near there is the ruins of a Abbey that worth the visit. Full review by Lucie B

Yes, there are guided tours in English at certain times of the day. There isn't much to see in the castle and the tour only took about 15-20 minutes. You can walk the rest of the property by yourself. The views are spectacular! There is also a restaurant on site in the building by the parking area and restrooms. There was also a sign for a restaurant uphill from the castle but it wasn't open when we visited. Hope this helps.
Does anyone have information on the local transportation to get to the castle? My son and I will be spending the night at Reutlingen and then taking a bus to Honau. I've read some brief descriptions of a trail to the castle that you can hike up from the base of the mountain. (Maybe a 60-90 min hike). Descriptions are vague at best. I'm trying to find out which bus # to take from Reutlingen to Honau, or at the very least - which bus stop to give off at in Honau, to begin up journey up the mountain to the castle? Any help would be greatly appreciated. We're leaving to go to Germany in 3 weeks!

Michael, I tried to put the link in here for you but it won't allow me to... So go got the Schloss-Lictenstein web page. Select the english flag Select Surrounding area Then Hiking Routes It has the PDF file that shows a trail from Schloss Lichtenstein to Honau...betting you can just go the other direction. States it is 1.9km and about 26 minutes. As for the bus, google this "Short Trips from Reutlingen Trip Five: Schloss Lichtenstein and the Source of the Echaz"...you should get a really nice PDF file that gives you bus 7606 information and other good info on this trip. Enjoy your trip...v/r Don

Hi, it seems that the bus won't go there during winter time :( Another option is to get out at stop Honau, Lichtenstein and walk from the foot of the hill/mountain to the castle. It takes around 30m to 1 hour depending on how fast you walk. Will be fun if you like trekking since the view is quite picturesque. But since it's still winter now, I won't guarantee if it's an easy walk. Make sure to pay attention to the small signs hanging on the trees along the way. Or download the map from gg map to your phone to make sure you won't get lost, AND know how to get back to the bus. But my advice is not to do it if you are not familiar with the area. You have to take a long train from Stuttgart to Reutlingen, and then take a long bus to there. Once being there, you might spend only 30m, unless you want to have some meal at the restaurant nearby with great view over the hill. But then you have to walk back to the bus station in the dark. And because it's still winter AND worse, weekend, the bus won't run as frequent as usual. You can stand in the cold and the dark for hours before the bus comes. And the the train back to Stuttgart. So, unless you have some reason to visit the castle now, and you like some adventures. Okay. if not, just wait for next time and in summer too.
