My husband and I (both 60’s) enjoyed the climb but we were there early before it was crowded which I think made it easier. For a child, it could be challenging, but there are landings to stop on and take a breath, so I’d let him/her give it a try.

It's been a while since we've been to St. Augustine, but I don't remember may out buildings there as there are at the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. So, it would be my favorite. But, if you are going for the day, and want more to do, then St. Augustine has more to offer than just touring a lighthouse.
