I've never needed to make reservations for Mercer Caverns. Just go and enjoy yourself! Take a picnic lunch and a beverage or two. Enjoy learning how the cavern formed and when it was discovered, and how they first explored it.
Depends I think on how senior. A 65 or 70 something in good shape, yes. Older than that maybe not. There are about 2500 steps up and down, at times quite steep.
Do we need to purchase ahead of time or reserve anything prior to going? My husband and I are going in May and want to be sure...
