The Franklin Institute is 7 blocks away. The Academy of Natural Sciences is 8 blocks away. There are countless restaurants scattered all over the area. The Art museum is just over a mile away. Eastern State Penitentiary is approximately 1 1/2 miles away. There is a lot to do.
Do I need to get tickets in advance for a weekday visit in September? Don't know if they limit the number of people.

I don’t believe so. We visited in peak vacation season over the Fourth of July holiday and were able to get in without a problem by just walking in. I don’t know if they have a daily limit or not.
Minimum of an hour and a half. A lot depends on your level of interest in the exhibits. Some people like to read everything, others might skim. I’d say most people stay a little over 2 hours.
