With much of Wall Street out for the holidays, the stock market was getting hammered by weak trading volume. The Dow was down 423 points, or 1%, with only a couple of hours left in the week's final session.

Stocks fell broadly on Friday as Wall Street closed out a holiday-shortened week on a down note. The losses were made worse by sharp declines for the Big Tech stocks known as the “Magnificent 7”, which can heavily influence the direction of the market because of their large size.
Stock Market News: Big Tech Leads Broader Market Lower
Apple stock was the leader of the pack with a decline of only 1.6%. It was followed by Meta Platforms, down 1.9%, and Alphabet and Microsoft, both down 2.3%. Amazon.com was down 2.5%. Nvidia and Tesla were the biggest laggards, falling 3.3% and 4.6%.
