Leading up to the start of the legal tampering period in the NFL, it was clear the battle for quarterback Justin Fields was going to be between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Jets, both of whom offered an opportunity to start in 2025 and potentially beyond.

March 9: Jamien Sherwood was a backup going into the 2024 season for the Jets. A year later, and with a team MVP award under his belt, he just became one of the five highest-paid linebackers in the NFL after agreeing to re-sign with the Jets for $45 million ($30 million of it guaranteed) on a three-year deal.

The New York Jets signed Justin Fields to compete to be their starting quarterback in 2025. But Fields had a decision to make, too. The 25-year-old signed a two-year deal in New York. Last season he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers and they reportedly wanted him back.
