The Mississippi Board of Animal Health has confirmed a second case of bird flu in the state. Chickens from a broiler flock in Copiah County tested positive for the virus.The birds in that flock have been put down to prevent the spread of the disease and the State Veterinarian has quarantined the area.

Arizona currently has no confirmed human cases of bird flu, although two Pinal County workers were exposed through infected poultry in December.

State officials said the Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory detected the bird flu in a backyard flock in Jackson County, the first reported case in the county since 2022. It was also detected in two commercial poultry facilities in Ottawa County,

The CDC says the public health risk is low and no infected birds or bird products will enter the commercial food chain.

The ongoing bird flu outbreak has escalated dramatically, now impacting not only poultry but also mammals, including domestic pets.
