In the event of a breakdown, having a winter emergency kit is essential. According to AAA Texas, about 40 percent of American drivers reported to AAA that they do not carry such a kit.

Wash and wax your vehicle to prevent rust damage. Throughout the winter, frequently wash your vehicle, paying particular attention to the undercarriage. This will loosen, dissolve and neutralize de-icing solutions. Always use a high-quality car wash solution, not a household dish detergent that will strip the wax from your vehicle.

If you do break down in the cold, you should have a winter emergency kit. Approximately 40% of American drivers told AAA they do not carry one currently.

In case of an emergency, it's recommended to keep a bag with a flash light, bottled water, a blanket and more inside your vehicle.
