One person is dead, and five others are injured after a boat exploded in a Florida marina, according to reports. Around 6 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, fire rescue received calls about a boat explosion at Lauderdale Marina in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a city around 30 miles north of Miami, reported Local 10 News and NBC Miami.

A boat explosion at a South Florida marina has left one person dead and five others injured. Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue says the explosion occurred Monday night at the Lauderdale Marina.

Adriana Edgerton and Jessica Lumedge told CBS News the injured person was their 7-year-old son, Alezander, and said he needed emergency heart surgery. They told CBS affiliate WKMG that their son was hit in the stomach by one of the drones.

The 7-year-old required heart surgery after the drone, apparently involved in a midair collision, struck his chest, mother Adriana Edgerton told NBC affiliate WESH of Orlando.
