A Lehigh County hazmat team is monitoring air quality for the neighbors, which includes a Northampton Area School District campus, the release says. “At this time, there is no threat to the public as far as air quality and the hazmat team continues to monitor the area,” the release says.

Firefighters are battling a massive blaze Tuesday at a recycling facility in Northampton. Drone photos showed flames through the roof of a large commercial building at Greenstar Recycling in the 700 block of Smith Lane. Firefighters were sent to the scene at 5:30 a.m. and continued to battle the blaze hours later.

A giant recycling plant in Northampton was badly damaged in a fire Tuesday that sent plumes of smoke into the sky that were visible for miles around. By Tuesday afternoon, workers were using heavy equipment to remove the plant’s metal roof so personnel using aerial firetrucks could hose down any hot spots,
