WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump met with General Motors CEO Mary Barra on Wednesday to talk about the automaker's investment plans amid an ongoing tariff war, a White House official told Reuters.

Investors and business leaders are looking for any signs that political leaders will walk back recent tariff hikes.

President Trump is granting automakers a one-month exemption from tariffs he imposed on Mexico and Canada, the White House said Wednesday. "The president is happy to do it," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said.

The two discussed jobs, tariffs and the importance of keeping the Great Lakes clean and safe, Whitmer's office stated.
