Peter Chanel - Wikipedia
Peter Louis Marie Chanel, SM (12 July 1803 – 28 April 1841), was a Catholic priest, missionary, and martyr. Chanel was a member of the Society of Mary and was sent as a missionary to Oceania . He arrived on the island of Futuna in November 1837.

In 1985, Saint Peter Chanel was officially adopted as Patron of the College which then took the name of Chanel College. In 1974 and 1978 additional classrooms, specialist rooms and staff amenities were built.

Born on July 12th 1803 in the hamlet of La Botiere near Montrevel (Ain) of a small-farming family, Peter Chanel spent part of his schooling at Cras and there was noticed by the parish priest, M. Trompier who took him and a companion into the presbytery and began to teach them Latin.
