Nov 6, 2010 · The one you're looking at is a copy of the Consew 206, and the Tacsew 111. If it's an FY 5318 it has reverse, lockstitch, and a walking foot. They sell new for about $600 on E-Bay. I have no idea of the quality of the machine. It will work fine for most auto upholstery work. _____

Feb 17, 2010 · Nylon thread is slightly stronger than polyester, but the Sunguard polyester thread I use handles UV rays better, so it is better for sewing things that will be outside in the sun, like a boat interior or boat cover, or a convertible top. Yes, you could use either one in auto upholstery.

Nov 16, 2013 · As far as a sewing machine, find one of the Singer 111W's or one of the clones of the 111W like the Consew 226R. What you want is an industrial single needle, compound feed (more than one feeding system, usually needle feed and drop feed which uses feed dogs to move the work) walking foot, (also called alternating presser feet) with reverse.

Mar 12, 2009 · This looks like a very well built machine, and would do well for furniture upholstery. The problem with this machine is that it only has 7 1/2" space to the right of the needle, and for auto upholstery, that would be tough to use. It only has 5/16" of lift, and only has a 1/10th HP motor. It costs around $700.00.
