I use a "dummy belt" when I press and wet mold my holsters so the belt slot molds right to the correct shape & size of the belt. I had it done as a Maul Punch. Jun 25, 2008 · I have made both the threaded loop type and the stitched loop type, I prefer the threaded loops because they are adjustable, especially if it is a belt for something large like shotgun shells etc. Use a slot punch to cut the holes, for small caliber use one slot per cartridge and loop the leather strap out and back into the same hole.

May 18, 2020 · I've recently obtained a shoulder of 4-6 ounce leather to finish up my western gun belt project, the 4-6 will be the liner for the 7-8 ounce outer layer and serve for cartridge loop material. The type of loop I want would require the strip to be woven in and out of slots cut in the outside layer with no stitching and each end held by a rivet.

Dec 6, 2011 · FWIW from the grump; I don't stitch my loops, I use the second method you describe, AND, don't know what the hell you are talking about on the third. I use a GOOD 3/4" bag punch to make the cut-out for each loop --- 3/4" apart. Run the loop leather (4/5 oz) up, make a loop, and back through the same hole --- on to the next.
