I would get one with fully electric ignition, in other words, no points. My `75 75 Mercury has been trouble free since day one, I believe it was the first year for coil per cylinder in the smaller motors.

None whatsoever.<br /><br />Ford sold Mercury Marine some engines in the mid to late seventies and some parts in the eighties.<br /><br />Other than that, the ONLY relationship is that the name is the same (Mercury) for one of their two totally different product lines.

May 12, 2017 · I've always been a Mercury fan and I'm a mechanic so I know stuff can just "break" but this is unacceptable. My neighbor bought a brand new Sun Tracker 22 foot barge with a brand spanking new 2017 Mercury 150 four stroke on the back. Absolutely immaculate. Bought it brand new at the boat show a few weeks ago.

Nov 15, 2011 · I did exactly this upgrade on a friends boat a few years ago. 23' cuddy. We also added centre riser exhaust manifolds. It increased the boat speed by about 2 knots. He sold that boat to another friend of mine, who pulled that engine and replaced it with my old 4.3. That 'upgrade' increased boat speed by 6 knots! Chris.....
