After a short time the CPU temperatures stabilized at 80C, with CPU-Z reporting the clock at 2.5 GHz, occasionally jumping to 2.6 GHz.

Mar 31, 2011 · About to pull the trigger on a W520 with FHD video. Video card options are the Nvidia Quadro 1000M or 2000M. The ONLY difference from a Nvidia product chart is the number of CUDA cores (1000M=96 cores, 2000M=192 cores). Doubling the CUDA cores increases not only the power consumption (45W v 55W), but also adds $250 to the W520 purchase price.

Nov 12, 2019 · Some of this can be abated, with varying degrees of success from individual CPU to individual CPU, with undervolting. The primary reason the W520 uses the 170W power supply is because of the discrete GPU. I measured wall outlet power draw a few years back on my W520 - i7 2860QM 45W CPU and 55W Quadro 2000M GPU, in various states of load:

Dec 12, 2005 · The ubiquitous 20V/90W charger, as used on T6x/R6x and newer will do fine for W510 with Dual Core CPU. The 65W is underpowered for W510, only use as a temporary solution. Edit: W510 with Quad Core CPU need the 135W adapter. They could also use the 170W adapter if the machine has a matching slotted/grooved(?) DC-socket.

Mar 24, 2012 · Its not the CPU state change noise which sounds like a kind of chirping. This is by far the most annoying Thinkpad noise of them all. Sounds like dying electrical balast. A low pitched and infinitely annoying. The moment you plug it in, it dissapears. Very odd.
