5 is usually seen as the weakest of the NES games. didn't add anything major gameplay wise to the franchise. and had a rather weak plot by the Classic series standart. honestly Inafune should've released the game on SNES with gameplay and lore ideas from Mega Man X1(which was developed around that time).

Nov 11, 2023 · Mega Man 5 is a pretty good game, but I do feel it’s like it’s a weird middle child between 4 and 6 since it’s weapons aren’t nearly as good as either and it has some strange additions like the way they changed Rush Coil. Overall though, pretty good game.

CAPCOM recycled the World Warrior Street Fighter tournament plot as well. There were a few Robot Masters who didn't fit the previous 5 games thematically (Yamato, Centaur, Tomahawk, perhaps Knight).
