This technique involves making several incisions in the lip to create a rotational flap from the medial segment of the cleft and an advancement flap from the cleft’s lateral segment.
The incision design through rotation and advancement lengthen the lip and appropriately narrow the nasal base while placing the scar at the border of natural anatomic facial subunits. The Millard technique helps to balance the lip and nasal base esthetic and can be applied in both unilateral and bilateral cleft lip repair.
