Aug 25, 2024 · The Texas Special was a streamliner operated by the Katy and Frisco between St. Louis and Dallas/Fort Worth. It was inaugurated in 1948 as a streamliner was completely canceled by 1965.

To take advantage of this route, the Texas Special started using the Frisco line in 1917. After World War II, Katy and Frisco each ordered a streamlined passenger train from Pullman and two E7 locomotives from General Motors to operate overnight service from St. Louis to San Antonio.

Once advertised as the “Glamour Train of the Southwest,” the Texas Special was jointly operated by M-K-T and the St. Louis-San Francisco Railway (Frisco). Both railway companies ran a fourteen-car, bright red streamliner which became known for its one-of-a-kind style and comfort.

Aug 30, 2008 · On March 4, 1917 a service agreement was reached between SLSF and MKT for joint operation with SLSF operation of the Texas Special from St. Louis to Vinita, OK and MKT operation from Vinita, OK to San Antonio, TX.
