The Wharton County Courthouse Historic Commercial District is a 21-acre (8.5 ha) historic district in Wharton, Texas that was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. It includes works by architects Jules Leffland and Wyatt C. Hedrick and others.

Wharton County (41,574), Wharton (8,629), El Campo (12,353) The multiple angled red brick and stone courthouse was built in 1889 but significantly remodeled in 1935. It is located at Milam and Houston streets, on a square, near the city center.

Heiner designed the 1889 replacement for Wharton's prior courthouse of 1852. Although not as ambitious as Heiner's courthouses in neighboring Colorado ( PF46) and Lavaca ( SF19) counties, the courthouse is the cornerstone of downtown Wharton.

The restoration work involves repairing the building's exterior and interior, including the roof, windows, and doors. The group is also working to restore the original woodwork, plasterwork, and stained glass windows.

After the 1930s additions to the building were demolished, the stucco on the exterior walls was removed and replaced with brick and masonry. The interior of the courthouse was also gutted to be completely renovated and updated. Gradually, the look of the building began to change and county residents took notice of the restoration.
