Feb 8, 2021 · Hi, your build looks great and well tested. I have also tested a RTX 3080 eGPU with 2019 MBP 16 (9-gen i9) and I got slightly lower scores, about few hundreds in each similar tests with 3DMark. My enclosure is RAZER CORE X btw.

BUt, even if used as an egpu, would it still have the high-performance I would need to 3D-animate and stream in OBS on my laptop? Dec 7, 2020 · @lycid, There's likely not much difference in FHD performance between RTX 2080 Ti vs RTX 3080 eGPU. We typically compare the graphics score for 3DMark results, which is about 25% less in this instance. Thunderbolt 4 is Thunderbolt 3 done right. We won't get much performance gain because max bandwidth remains the same at 22Gbps.

Jan 5, 2021 · No. Egpu is for ultrabook or laptops with weak gpu, your dgpu is already good you don’t need one. Beside gaming laptops CPUs isn’t good for TB3 egpu setting more bandwidth penalty over TB3 bandwidth limitation, and egpu isn’t great for high FPS games since latency (frametime) isn’t as good as dgpu that connected directly to motherboard.

Dec 19, 2020 · (2) DP2-Port <--> RTX 3080 Gaming Box, for use in Bootcamp. Once I configured the Windows screen settings to use only monitor 2 (I only have one monitor, but two connections to it, so DP2 = eGPU), it displays the login screen directly via eGPU, no further switching necessary. Feb 19, 2024 · I had a similar experience with my gaming laptop with 3080 (GA104) mobile dGPU and using a desktop 3080 (GA102) as an eGPU. dGPU was way more consistent on frame rates even though the desktop 3080 is a more powerful card. This was true even when using an external monitor directly attached to the eGPU.
