Situated four miles west of Loch Laggan, the dam was built by the British Aluminium Company to provide hydro-electricity for their aluminium smelter at Inverlochy near Fort William. Completed in 1934, the dam crosses the River Spean, harnessing the waters of Loch Laggan.
